Crostini with Goat Cheese Round and Tomato-Basil Sauce

Lynn Dugan - MyPlate2Yours

Everybody loves this appetizer. These four simple Ingredients are ready In about 20 minutes. You'll be delighted at how well the creaminess of the goat cheese pairs with tomato and basil. Crostini Is simply Italian toasted bread that's ready for toppings. And when topped with tomato and goat cheese, it's perfection! Enjoy!

Crostini with Goat Cheese Round in Tomato-Basil Sauce (serves 4)

4 ounces goat cheese

3/4 cup of your favorite jarred marinara sauce

6 leaves fresh basil, cut into thin ribbons with kitchen shears or knife

4 slices whole grain bread or 8-12 slices Italian bread

Olive oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape goat cheese into a 3-inch round disc. Place in the center of a shallow 6-inch bowl or pie plate. Pour sauce on top of cheese.  Cover with foil and heat in oven for 15-20 minutes, until sauce is bubbly.

Prepare crostini. Using a pastry brush, brush a small amount of olive oil on both sides of bread slices.  Place these in a toaster or toaster oven until light brown. If using sliced bread, cut each diagonally into 4 triangles.

When cheese/sauce is finished, remove from oven and top with fresh basil. Serve immediately with crostini. Enjoy!
